Who We Are> CVJCF has been a member of the South Suburban Youth Football League since the 2004 season. When we joined, we were the eighth team in a two-division league. At the start of the 2008 season, our fifth one in the SSYFL, we are part of a three-division league with approximately 15 teams. The SSYFL is comprised of Chartiers Valley, North Hills, Montour, Baldwin-Whitehall, Steel Valley, West Mifflin, South Side, West Allegheny, Carlynton, Brentwood, Brookline, Avonworth, Thomas Jefferson, South Park, ARKEN, Bethel Park, and Upper St. Clair (although Bethel and USC only bring their "big" teams to our league).
About the SSYFL> The SSYFL is an umbrella organization. Their by-laws are set up to govern the field of play, how their meetings are conducted, and how to operate in the best interest of the youth of the area. The Board of Directors of the SSYFL is comprised of a President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Sportsmanship Committee Chairperson. Every member organization has two league representatives who attend the meetings and vote on behalf of their group. The Board cannot have two members from the same organization serve at the same time. We are fortunate to have the Secretary position for the League. Todd Shaak has been elected to a third term as the League Secretary (and some say that he can check out any time he likes, but he can never leave!!).
The SSYFL does NOT govern each group and will not mediate for any organization. If you have an issue that you feel needs to be addressed by the League, you need to take it to one of our League Reps, who will then pass the information along at the monthly League meetings. Parents are not permitted to attend the League meetings, unless there are special circumstances determined by the League. Our League Reps are Andrew Giroski and Dave Windsheimer. You can email them at leaguerep@cvjuniorcolts.com.
The League will not hear any issues from an organizations' parents. If you, as a parent of a CVJCF player or cheerleader, have a sportsmanship issue with a ref, another team's player(s), or another team's coach(es), it still needs to be brought to the League's attention by one of our reps at a meeting. Furthermore, no organizations' parents can protest a game - protesting is to be done by the Head Coach of a team, again through the League Reps for the organization.
What You Can Expect From Us> Our League Reps are committed to making the best possible decisions for the kids at CV. This does not always mean that what we want to happen WILL happen. However, we try at every meeting, every month. Our League Reps are also committed to making sure that we all know what's going on with the League, from our Board to our parents.
The League does have a website - it hasn't had the best reputation in the past for being very informative. We are going to try to highlight, on this page, things that parents need to know as we are given the information. When the League website is up and running again, we will post that information here as well.
What You Need To Know Right Now> Primarily, at this time, what you need to know is the following: *ARKEN has joined our league - they are a team from New Kensington. *The team divisions have been set as of the April meeting and will be posted soon. There will definitely be three divisions this season. *The weight limits remain the same as they were last year. *You cannot roster on more than one team, same as last year. *If your child is ejected from a game for unsportsmanlike behavior on the field, the League imposes the rule that the player can also not play the following week. THIS DOES NOT EXCLUDE YOUR CHILD'S COACH FROM DEALING FURTHER WITH YOUR PLAYER. *The divisions are final now for this season - we are in the same division as North Hills, Montour, Avonworth, and South Side. This means that we WILL play everyone in our division one time and play two teams from each of the other two divisions once as well. We do not know at this time which teams we will play from the other divisions. We'll post the information as soon as we get it!
